And the story goes ...

25 May 2006: It was a beautiful, warm, sunny spring day so I went in search of wildflowers, and I had good luck. I found these red beauties on the side of the road in the Jefferson National Forest in southwest VA. Using a reference book on wildflowers, I believe that these flowers are "wild pinks," an infrequent find. Oops, after further study, I think these are "fire pinks," a common wildlfower here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Click on the photo to visit my new gallery, Wildflowers of VA.
