And the story goes ...
03 January 2007: This boardwalk was destroyed by the storms and hurricanes in recent years. Other evidence of storm damage is still visible here in Destin FL: a few signs blown out by high winds have not been replaced, a boat or two are still slammed up against sand dunes, a waterfront building here and there is still in disrepair or in the process of being rebuilt. We ate at Pompano Joe's Seafood Restaurant the other night. It is located right on the Gulf of Mexico. Its beach is still being replenished and its parking lot is still mostly washed away. Much of the construction here is new construction, not just restoration. I still don't understand the desire to build or rebuild in a hurricane zone. Guess you have to be a native of the area to understand this. As Dorothy says, "There's no place like home."
