May 16-June 16, 2004: Sisters to Bend to Yachats, Oregon

Sadie is home and all is well, so we’ll continue on toward Sisters and Bend.

We travel east on Route 126 driving through many forests of trees,

Some are pine and some are fir and some are burned to the ground, how sad to see,

But Mother Nature has her ways of making new life from these ashes, we’ve learned from history.

Today, we’ll explore the towns of Sisters and Bend,

Both are well known for their western ways of rodeos and quilting bees,

And information I will send to Mom and Candy who are both interested in this sewing trend.

The weather is cool and the sky is gray, but we hope to have a good day

Even though we have not had a good night’s sleep because Sadie has become quite sly,

And she managed to open the door to her cat cave and on our bed she did fly

To let us know that she has learned a new trick, she’s a clever one, we cannot deny.

We ventured to the mountains and Three Sisters we did see,

Ancient volcanoes still active today form a trio with snow-capped tops on lava rock.

Most of this land is lava rock covered with red ash, now cool it was once burning hot.

In Sisters, we ate tasty barbecue at Bronco Billy’s and we saw many fillies in this horse country.

We saw sheep and goats and alpacas used for hiking the trails,

And the llamas look like poodles when their fur is cut to make fine coat-tails.

The weather was warm in the afternoons but so cold in the nights we did freeze,

So, when our two weeks was done we decided to return to the Coast with its warmer breeze.

To Yachats we go where the wind does blow at Cape Perpetua perpetually,

And the California sea lions do roar as they climb ashore on the rocks in the shallow sea.

As we walk on the beach we see hundreds of small sailboats,

They are really some kind of jellyfish with blue hulls and slimy sails that do not float

When the ocean leaves them behind on the sand covered with slippery foam that sticks to our shoes and pants.

The sun and rain created a few rainbows today and the sunset was golden this eve,

But the rain continues making the days very gray keeping us inside our RV, “Can we leave?”

On Tuesday, we will head East again, this time warmer weather I am hoping to find,

I am tired of being cold and Tom is tired of hearing me whine.

While this Coast is awesome to see, I am ready to roam in search of a warmer home.

There’s much to see and much to do as we make our way back to friends and family,

We have miles to drive and much to see as we travel from sea to shining sea.
