January 2005: An Ice Storm in Atlanta 31 January 2005: Our personal account at Smugmug.com has been upgraded to a professional account. Smugmug offers specialty print sizes and many gift items such as mousepads, shirts, mugs, tote bags, aprons, PUZZLES, and more! 31 January 2005: Congratulations, Tom! On this date in 2002, Tom officially retired after spending many years developing computer software. Although he continues to study new software development programs, he takes frequent breaks from this pleasureable past-time and he is enjoying his nomadic lifestyle more than I ever expected he would. 30 January 2005: Happy birthday, Lisa, Tom's daughter! Ice is melting fast, but some power lines are still down and out so our cell phone is not working well. Hopefully, Atlanta will be fully functional again soon. The ice storm paralyzed this crowded, busy city and its surrounding suburbs! 29 January 2005: Ice storm came, power went out, and generator came on. Outside spigot froze. Tom used the hair dryer to thaw it out so we could get water. Our truck Ruby is not finished, delayed because of ice and mechanic could not get to work and some other problem unknown at this time. We'll be here in Atlanta another week. Fed the birds popcorn and took more photos to upload in the Animals Gallery. 28 January 2005: YIKES! An ice storm is headed our way. We're digging in for the weekend in Atlanta, GA. Hope to continue our travels toward the Southwest on Monday. We may be without electricity and an Internet connection for awhile. Thankfully, we do have our generator! Black water tank valve issue was resolved by repairing a broken wire. Richard from Great Escapes RV did this repair on site. It was employees at his shop who fixed our scrape when the right side of our RV got too close to a boulder on a narrow road in a mountain-lake community in NC. That repair had to be done at his shop so we spent three looong nights in a hotel room with the cats. Sadie did great; Harry did not. Our truck, Ruby, is on the mend and will be ready to tow on Saturday! So, we'll continue our trek southwest early next week. We're still in Atlanta, GA as of today, 25 January 2005. Weather has improved and we enjoyed a sunny day in the high 50's. 25 January 2005 PM: Added 3 photos of birds to the album of animal photos in our online gallery: 2 of bluejays and 1 of a red-headed woodpecker, all enjoying popcorn. Hope to get a good photo tomorrow of one of the many cardinals in the woods here. They seem to prefer berries over bread or popcorn. Our black water valve problem has been solved by manually opening the valve. YUCK! The electrical valve will be repaired tomorrow, unless we need to order a part, then it will be fixed later. Sadie had a much needed medication bath for her dander and shedding. She was a very good girl. Harry is being a very good boy, going out in the dark for very short periods of time to exercise and use the fallen leaves as his outdoor litter box. He is not rough-housing with the wild cats here in the park. Good boy, Harry! 25 January 2005: 30+ photos were added to our online gallery successfully at Smugmug.com. I am finding Smugmug to be a much better way to share our photos. I do think that Shutterfly provides more options for editing photos and faster and better quality prints. 23 January 2005: More than 30 photos added to our galleries at Smugmug.com. 22 January 2005: The valve to the black water tank is not working, so we have to use the campground "out-house" until it's repaired and it's FREEZING here! Now, this is NOT fun. 12 January 2005: We are still in Atlanta, GA. The repair work has been completed on our RV, but now we need to have a coolant leak in our truck repaired. We're beginning to think that we will never get to the Gulf Coast to enjoy warmer weather! As of January 11, we are in Atlanta, GA, having some small repairs done on our RV. We will be heading to Gulf Shores, Alabama, on January 24. The weather in Atlanta has turned COLD so we are looking forward to warmer temperatures as we travel further south and west.
